Creative Gigaworks T20

Although there are many options when it comes to choosing speakers to use with your computer, I can highly recommend these speakers from Creative (the people who basically “invented” sound cards quite a few years ago).

I use them with a laptop, and of course the built-in speakers that come with laptops are generally useless for listening to music or video. Personally, I think going for a 5.1 surround system on the desk is a bit of overkill, but that doesn’t mean a sacrifice in sound quality. Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to have enjoyed high-end hi-fi systems, so I think I have an appreciation of what constitutes good sound. The T20s deliver well-balanced, clean sound, with good definition and tonal quality, together with plenty of volume available if you want it. There are separate controls for bass and treble, though I rarely use them – being able to leave them in the “flat” position is a good indication of speaker quality.

When I purchased these speakers I found prices varied quite a bit, so it may pay to shop around – I saved £20 by doing so. Drawbacks? Some users have commented on the power light coming close to retina burning! Yes, it’s bright, but if it’s too much for you try using a felt-tip pen to darken it a little.
