After seeing all the advertisement hype about this movie, Sian (my other half) and I were quite sceptical about watching it. I’m sure that some of you would agree that most movies relying so heavily on CG to make a profit, do so at the expense of good acting or for that matter a story line. Personally, I’m bored of the plethora of CG created explosions and F-18’s shooting at space ships kind of stuff! So whilst we were up on holiday in Namibia, we decided not to watch it for that exact reason.

So on arriving home and having nothing better to do. I convinced Sian to go watch it with me.
Well…it was nothing less than breath taking!
Not just in terms of the effects, but the story line and acting.
James Cameron created a movie with such magic and beauty that it left me with a feeling that I have probably not had since watching Star Wars as a kid. Elements in this movie include; the discovery of hope, love, spiritual harmony, exhilaration, and a world that is a visual wonder complete with an enchanted portrayal of all its living things.

So keeping this short! It is an absolute must see!
Kudos Jim

Where to start with Avatar…. Well firstly, I totally agree with all of the above, and apparently so does the rest of the world. When Avatar first came out, we – like you – decided not to go watch it. We had not seen the trailers and not heard much about it, but when invited to go watch it with some friends we declined for much the same reasons you didn’t want to watch it in Namibia.

Then the hype about Avatar started, and we started getting curious about what all the Avatar madness was all about. My wife and I, with 2 of our friends, went to go watch Avatar 3D (the second movie we have seen in 3D and by far the way of the future!). Apart from the fact it was in 3D, which is totally mind blowing and has come a long way since the early days of red and blue cardboard glasses, the movie was unreal!

I would go so far as to say that Avatar is in my top 5 movies of all time. The matrix was the reason I ended up buying a DVD player in 1999, and Avatar would be the reason for me to get Blue Ray, or dare I say it, a 3D TV (if they were available in the same format as the movie, which I have no doubt Avatar might be responsible for )

It comes as no surprise that Avatar is now at the top of the pile of highest grossing movies of all time. I’m not sure if it has finally taken first place or not, but considering Avatar is still on circuit (4 months after its release) and considering all the merchandise (DVD’s, Blue Ray, Toys, Action Figures, etc) has not hit the market in full swing, it won’t be long before Avatar IS the number one movie of all time.

It probably also comes as no surprise, that James Cameron is responsible for the number 1 and number 2 slots for highest grossing movies of all time. Last I checked the stats were Titanic at number 1 and Avatar at number 2.
